In a surprising move last night, the Tampa Bay Lightning unveiled their revolutionary “Frozen-in-Time ” defensive strategy against the Montreal Canadiens.
Convinced that the play was dead when Montreal goalie Sam Montembeault froze the puck, the Lightning players took the opportunity to check their emails and update their social media profiles. Lightning star Nikita Kucherov, in a display of confidence in the new system, headed to the bench to order some post-game pizza. Little did they know, the referee had decided to take an extended coffee break before blowing the whistle.
As Tampa goalie Jonas Johansson took a leisurely skate out of his net, the Montreal goalie, Montembeault handed the puck to fellow Hab Johnathan Kovacevic, who promptly transformed into a puck-slinging maestro, sending the biscuit down the ice and into the net.
The Lightning are a great team and have had tremendous success in the past few years but this new defensive system: “Let’s see if the opponents can score when we’re not even playing,” is a display of over confidence. Tampa Bay’s new avant-garde approach to the game is just the beginning. Next week they are set to unveil the “Just stay in the dressing room” strategy. Looking forward to it for sure.
Oh yeah, they still won the game so maybe they are onto something here.
