On January 31, 1920, Joe Malone etched his name into hockey history with an unparalleled feat. As the only NHL player to ever achieve the remarkable milestone of scoring 7 goals in a single game, Malone’s performance remains legendary.

Throughout his illustrious 123 game NHL career, Malone had 18 hat tricks and scored at least five goals in a game five times. In the history of the NHL only 8 players have scored 5 goals in multiple games. It was, of course, a different era of hockey but he has some pretty good company on that list.

Malone showcased extraordinary skill, lightning speed, and sniper-like precision on the ice. His dominance earned him a reputation as one of the greatest goal scorers of his era. A true pioneer of the game, Malone’s record-breaking achievement on that historic day stands as a testament to his exceptional talent and enduring legacy in the annals of hockey history. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1950 and died on May 15, 1969.
